In recent years, the way that journalism is consumed has changed massively. A lot of publications are read and even subscribed to in their online form. My project focuses on the changes of the industry and how this affects current and future musicians and, because of this, I decided that I needed to reflect one of the biggest recent changes in the sector by creating an online edition of my magazine.
I included some aspects of a website that I would expect from that of a real publication. Features like a greater amount of 'interviews' or a monthly playlist will be included to mirror the online presence of a publication. This online presence is key in a modern environment where print is slightly dying out.
For example, one of the front runners of the UK music magazine scene, NME magazine, announced the end of their print publication in March 2018, moving to an entirely online process. For many companies, continuing the print edition of their publications is becoming impossible. Less and less people seek out physical copies and turn to the convenience of online articles, reducing the funding of and eventually killing off the print all together.
This is a change that will continue to effect the journalism sector far into the future. With the hope that my project will help me prepare slightly for both higher education and the career I want to enter into beyond that, this is something I need to acknowledge in order to accurately represent the current music industry in both a national and local level as I wanted to with my EPQ.
