Creating a Website

In recent years, the way that journalism is consumed has changed massively. A lot of publications are read and even subscribed to in their online form. My project focuses on the changes of the industry and how this affects current and future musicians and, because of this, I decided that I needed to reflect one of the biggest recent changes in the sector by creating an online edition of my magazine. I included some aspects of a website that I would expect from that of a real publication. Features like a greater amount of 'interviews' or a monthly playlist will be included to mirror the online presence of a publication. This online presence is key in a modern environment where print is slightly dying out.  For example, one of the front runners of the UK music magazine scene, NME magazine, announced the end of their print publication in March 2018, moving to an entirely online process. For many companies, continuing the print edition of their publications is becoming impossible.

The Importance of the Layout

The Cover Creating the front cover of a magazine is important to the interest of the audience in the magazine. They attract attention to the main articles through the layout. Often having a well-known celebrity on the cover, magazines will use specific colours and layout to intrigue a reader to purchase the product, but also gain more information into the topic they originally set out to read. Each aspect of a front cover design is key to it's effectiveness. I have also found a tutorial ( link ) on how to create an engaging cover for the article I will create. The aesthetics of a magazine is equally important as the content inside. The cover is the first impression the reader has of the quality of the journalism inside, so it is vital that this reflects the level of professionalism of the writing.

Progress So Far

- I have sent out mulitple sets of interview questions. As of yet, I have only recieved one response, but hope to gather more primary data. I have also sent a direct message to a band manager/ founder of a record label, but also gave yet to recieve a reply. - I have made a note of many resources/ secondary data I could use in my article, whlist attempting to evaluate the reliability of each one.

Long Term Plan for the Next Academic Year

February - Evaluate the reliability of the research I have already collected, and find any remaining facts and figures I may need to create my project. March - Finalise the title of my final project (the question I first came up with, or the statement I previously mentioned as a possible change of question) April - Start creating my magazine and learning the necessary skills to create an aesthetically pleasing piece of work. - This may require a few drafts to figure out which style I would like to present. May - I may not complete a large amount of work in this time period due to my AS level exams, so planning any key things to be completed may be pushed back to a later date. June - At this time. I hope to have written a large amount of my article, if  not to have finished it. - This will allow me enough time to check the contents of the writing, and make any edits necessary to achieve the highest grade possible. Describing my Aims and Objectives

Taken from PPR form. 1. Develop skills in conducting and presenting research. I would like to be able to learn how to collect the most relevant information to use in my project, and also be able to incorporate them into my article smoothly. Integrating any facts and figures into the text, rather then just attaching them onto a statement, will improve the quality of my project, by making the information flow better and make the whole text better to read. 2. To be able to present my project confidently to others. In the past, I have found it difficult to be confident when presenting a project to a group of people. With this project, I aim to become more confident when doing this. I hope that the length of time I will spend researching and learning about my topic will allow me to become more outgoing when it comes to the presentation at the end of my EPQ. 3. Learn new skills when using a computer program to help me create a final product. The main aim of my project, aside

Change in Plans

In an aim to develop new skills during this project, I have decided to change the final product of my EPQ. I would now like to create a magazine, or magazine article, addressing the role of record labels and how they compare to an independent artist solely utilising streaming services. Using a computer program, like Adobe InDesign, will allow me to create a high quality, professional product, whilst learning the new skills required to do so.
